Road Traffic Management Date Change to Enable Major Giffnock Investment

We're advising road users of a change of date for a proposed road closure ahead of work to tackle sewer flooding in Giffnock, East Renfrewshire.

The full closure of a short section of Braidholm Road, from Merryton Avenue to Merrylee Park Avenue, will come into effect on Monday 1st August, 2022.

This closure was originally planned from Monday 27th June. 

This change is not anticipated to impact the overall programme of works which are expected to take around 13 months for completion. 

As planned, work to create the construction site on the grassed area at Braidholm Road begins on Monday 27th June. 

From Monday 4th July, a temporary road closure will be in place on a short stretch of Graffham Avenue, at the Graffham Avenue/Whitton Drive junction closest to Braidholm Road, for around five days. This will allow access to be built to the construction site.

From Monday 1 August, Braidholm Road will then be closed to through traffic from Merryton Avenue to Merrylee Park Avenue for 11 months with local diversions in place. There will be no parking, however, pedestrian access will be maintained. Access will be maintained to Braidbar Farm Road and Park Grove Avenue via traffic lights during this time.

From Monday 1 August 2022 until October 2022, access to Braidbar Farm Road and Park Grove Avenue will be from the direction of Glasgow Hutchesons’ Aloysians (GHA) rugby club along Braidholm Road.

From October 2022 until June 2023, access to Braidbar Farm Road and Park Grove Avenue will be from the direction of Giffnock Police Station along Braidholm Road.

Temporary traffic management plans have been agreed in liaison with East Renfrewshire and Glasgow City councils. 

These road traffic management plans will enable works on a major project to help alleviate sewer flooding in the area.

“However, it is essential these works are carried out to reduce the risk of repeated internal flooding issues and deliver benefits to the wider community.

“We would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding while this major investment is delivered.”

Scottish Water awaits planning permission from East Renfrewshire Council for its main work compound to be situated adjacent to the car park of Glasgow Hutchesons’ Aloysians (GHA) rugby club.
