Scottish Water have recieved planning approval to carry out significant investment at the treatment works to improve the resilience of the public water supply supplying 179,000 customers across Kinross-shire and Central Fife.
“We understand the challenges that come with delivering such significant construction in a rural setting and, as a result of early engagement with the local community and through the planning process, we have a robust traffic management plan to ensure we minimise community impact.”

SCOTTISH WATER has welcomed Perth & Kinross Council’s decision to approve a new Water Treatment Works in Glenfarg.
The approval green lights significant investment in the area to improve the resilience of the public water supply to 179,000 customers across Kinross-shire and Central Fife.
Glenfarg's water network is currently formed of 39 local storage tanks known as 'service reservoirs', strategically placed to serve nearby communities. This significant investment will increase the capacity by building a new Clear Water Tank (CWT) to serve as the main source of drinking water, reducing the risk of customer supplies being interrupted.
The rural setting of the works will be reflected sensitively, with the new building finished in an olive colour to blend into the surrounding countryside, and the area enhanced with planting to add to the natural landscape.
Recognising the impact of increased traffic during the construction phase, Scottish Water has committed to providing a crossing officer to support school pupils at the Ladeside junction.
The publicly-owned water company will also impose restrictions on project-related vehicles for both routes and hours of travel, and carry out upgrades to specific roads set to be affected by higher volumes of traffic.
Martin McIlvaney, Scottish Water's Senior Project Manager said: “We are thrilled to have received approval for this essential upgrade to the area’s critical water infrastructure.
“This decision allows us to push forward with improving the drinking water production process and improving the security of supply.
“We understand the challenges that come with delivering such significant construction in a rural setting and, as a result of early engagement with the local community and through the planning process, we have a robust traffic management plan to ensure we minimise community impact.
“We’ll continue to prioritise community engagement and look forward to continuing to engage constructively as we progress throughout the build.”
The work is being carried out on Scottish Water’s behalf by delivery partner ESD.
