Dumfries & Galloway land eighth Top Up Tap in Moffat
02 September 2024“We’re excited to see Moffat join the Top Up Tap network. These taps not only encourage sustainable practices but also support the well-being of residents and visitors by ensuring that everyone can stay hydrated as they enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Moffat.”

Locals and visitors of Moffat are making strides towards sustainability and public health as they embrace the installation of Dumfries & Galloway’s eighth Top Up Tap. This new addition joins the growing network of public water refill stations, providing access to fresh, free drinking water.
Located in the heart of Moffat and serving as the 130th Top Up Tap, it is part of a wider initiative by Scottish Water to reduce single-use plastic and promote hydration on the go. The publicly owned utility company liaised with Moffat and District Community Council and the Town Hall Redevelopment Trust during the planning and installation phases.
The tap is strategically placed to serve the community, outdoor enthusiasts, and tourists exploring the picturesque Borders region. Positioned directly across from the iconic Ram Statue—where a historic drinking water fountain once stood—the location is fitting to Moffat's heritage.
Since the introduction of the first Top Up Tap at the Scottish Parliament in 2018, communities across Scotland have embraced the convenience and environmental benefits of refilling reusable bottles rather than purchasing bottled water. The taps have dispensed the equivalent of 10million bottles across Scotland, highlighting their popularity and the positive impact they are having.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to take advantage of the new Top Up Tap in Moffat, bringing their reusable bottles, and contributing to a greener future for the Borders.
