project statys delivery

Project Overview

Scottish Water is investing £2.6m to replace water main pipes in Aith and Braewick on Shetland.

What We Are Doing

We are replacing approximately 6.4km of water main pipes in Aith and Braewick, with work being carried out predominantly in private rural land, on road verges, and on some roads.

Roadworks, including the use of temporary traffic lights and some access restrictions, will be in place whilst this project is carried out. Advance signage will be in place prior to any work on the roads commencing.

This project is being delivered on Scottish Water’s behalf by alliance partner Caledonia Water Alliance (CWA) and local contractor Tulloch Developments Ltd.

Why We Are Doing This

We are taking care of the water services in Aith and Braewick to ensure the local community can continue to enjoy clear, fresh drinking water, whilst reducing the chance of pipes bursting in this area.

Replacing the water main will ensure that we can maintain our vital service for our customers.

When We Are Doing It

Work began on site in January 2024 with Phase 1 of 2 commencing.

Phase 1 starts from the south-west of Aith (south of 'Da Wedding Shed' Bridal Shop) and heads north towards Braewick. This first phase is expected to be completed by late spring 2024.

Phase 2 is focused within Aith and is estimated to start early summer 2024 and be completed by August 2024. During this work access to Aith Marina will be maintained with the use of traffic management.
