A city street is closed off for construction, with barricades, traffic cones, and a sign reading "Road Closed." Construction machinery is visible in the background, and scaffolding covers a nearby building. The weather is wet, with rain making the pavement glisten. Residential buildings line both sides of the street.

We are continuing our urgent sewer repair work in the Haymarket area of Edinburgh.

During investigations on a damaged section of sewer beneath Rosebery Crescent, we identified further damage extending to the main sewer connection on Haymarket Terrace.

Due to the size of the pipe and the depth it is buried - three metres - we have to close part of the road to carry out the work safely.

Road Closure Updates

Rosebery Crescent:

  • From Monday 20 January 2025 a section of Rosebery Crescent will be closed to all vehicles between Haymarket Terrace and Rosebery Crescent Lane.
  • The road closure will move north of Rosebery Crescent Lane as work progresses.
  • Diversion signs are in place and we ask all road users to follow the signs.
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout and customers can still access the car park off Rosebery Crescent Lane.

Latest Update – January 2025

With Phase 1 of our sewer repair works successfully completed at the end of last year, we will begin Phase 2 on Monday 20 January 2025.

This involves the repair of a damaged 450mm sewer 3 metres beneath the road.

To ensure the safety of the public and workers, a section of Rosebery Crescent will be temporarily closed during this time. Work will begin between Haymarket Terrace and Rosebery Crescent Lane and then move up the street as work progresses.

At this stage, it is not possible to say how long the works will take, but we will keep everyone updated on progress.

We would like to thanks all residents, businesses and road users for their patience and understanding as we carry out this vital sewer repair.
