Project Overview
Scottish Water is progressing with its £38 million investment between Peterhead and Ellon, upgrading almost 23km of trunk water main.

Castle Road, Ellon Reopening Early (Update: 15 October 2025)
Our site teams have made excellent progress along this section of the works, and we are on track to complete reinstatement later this week. Once this has been finalised, all traffic management and signage will be removed, with Castle Road fully reopening by Monday 20 October - around eight weeks ahead of programme.
During the closure, there have been changes to local bus services to accommodate the diversion route. We’ve been liaising closely with bus operators and can confirm that all services will return to their normal routes, timetables and operations from Monday 20 October.
If progress continues as planned, there’s a possibility we may be able to open Castle Road earlier, potentially on Saturday 18 October. However, to avoid any confusion, all bus services will continue their current diversion routes and timetables until Monday.
The temporary shuttle bus service serving the Castle Park area will stop operating when normal bus services resume, with the last day of operation on Saturday 18 October.
We’re very pleased to be able to complete this section of work ahead of schedule and reopen the road earlier than expected.
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank residents, businesses and bus operators for their patience and cooperation while this essential work has been carried out.
